Multi-Tasking Beauty Products – How to Get the Most From Your Moisturizers, Toners and Masques

By

Multi Task: Moisturizing Your Hands, Feet, Neck and Eye Area

The skin on your hands and feet is thicker than skin on the rest of your body, so both areas need more moisture, to penetrate and hydrate the multiple layers of skin. The same holds true for skin on your face. The skin on your neck and under eye area is delicate because it is extremely thin, when compared to the rest of your body. These two areas also contain very few oil producing glands, which is why they need extra moisture, every day and night, to address their highly specific requirements.

You don’t need to buy a separate skin treatment for these areas. Your eye cream or serum will do an excellent job to nourish and protect both areas.

After cleansing, toning and applying sunscreen and/or antioxidant to your face, neck and décolletage, gently apply your eye treatment to the skin just underneath the eye and to the upper lid, using your pinky or ring finger. Next, take a little bit more, dot it on your neck and décolletage and rub it in, gently. Eye creams and serums are formulated thicker than treatments intended for use on the face, so a small amount goes a long way. The décolletage is not necessarily thin, but it will benefit from a little extra attention via a small amount of eye cream/serum. This skin helps support the breasts so to maintain plumpness and elasticity, be sure to keep your décolletage well hydrated: Eye cream is the PERFECT tool for the job!

Multi Task: Toners and Masques for your Face, Bikini Area and Body

Another double duty product is facial toner: after cleansing, it restores the skin’s proper pH balance and also removes any residual cleanser, chlorine and/or minerals often found in tap water. When used on the bikini area, it will keep the hair follicles “open” and discourage the formation of ingrown hairs. To prevent ingrown hairs and razor bumps, use the other side of your cotton pad (after you’ve toned your face) and pass it over your bikini area. If you have occasional body acne, you can “spot treat” it with toner and the same clay based masque that you use on your face. Moisten a clean cotton pad with a small amount of toner and wipe it over the affected area. Allow it to air dry for a minute or two and then apply a small amount of your clay masque with a cotton swab. Allow the masque to dry completely and then use a clean, damp wash cloth to remove it. To ward off future breakouts, be sure to rinse conditioner from your hair BEFORE lathering up: Your breakouts could very well be a result of left over hair conditioner lingering on your skin’s surface.

Using Conditioner

Speaking of hair conditioner, it can serve double duty as a light protective coating before heat styling or on areas of the hair that tend to “fly away”: Just be sure not to use too much, as this will weigh hair down and cause it to look greasy. If you are going to use your conditioner in this manner, be certain that it does not contain any harsh preservatives. Heavy duty chemical preservatives in many conditioners are intended to be left on the hair for only a short amount of time and then rinsed out. If you are going to use your conditioner as a leave-in, these chemical preservatives can cause damage. Your best bet is to use a conditioner with plant derived ingredients and minimal, naturally sourced and a gentle preservative system.

One final healthy skin tip

Don’t use the same towel you use on your body to dry your face! Instead, pat your face dry with a wash cloth, ideally a fresh one every day. Your towel may have traces of hair conditioner, shower gel, etc on it and that could easily lead to clogged pores on your face. After you’ve dried your face with your washcloth, use it to wipe down all the wet surfaces in the bathroom and then toss it in the hamper. A post shower, daily wipe down will greatly reduce the buildup of soap scum and mildew on bathroom surfaces.

If you are serious about skin cream, you should consider looking for an organic face cream which contains manuka honey. This wonder ingredient is being used more frequently in a variety of organic products from antibacterial lotions and hand cleansers to moisturizers and night creams.

There are so many different ways that an organic face cream containing manuka honey can improve your skin. Honey has always been known as a natural antibacterial product that can help your body boost its ability to fight infection.

Manuka honey is a honey which has added ability to kill bacteria and prevent infection. Whether this is bacteria which is building up in acne-prone skin or the bacteria which can cause a cut to become infected, this honey can fight it and kill it using a technique that bacteria cannot defend against.

Manuka honey, when used in an organic face cream, pulls moisture out of bacterial cells and causes them to dehydrate. Bacteria cannot live without an adequate level of moisture so this kills them. However, unlike antibiotics, a bacterial cell cannot mutate in order to defend against this.

Organic face cream is an excellent choice for the use of skin products because they often contain ingredients which are far more effective than their synthetic counterparts. The other good thing about organic face cream is that it does not contain harmful compounds as well as beneficial ones. Some harmless-seeming ingredients such as preservatives can actually have cumulative and long-lasting negative effects on the body.

Manuka honey is also high in anti-oxidants which help to protect and nourish skin, keeping it looking younger longer. If you have ever wanted a product that can help heal damage to your skin at a molecular level, you will be happy to learn that manuka honey products do just that.

By binding with free radicals which attack skin cells and cause them to break down or replicate incorrectly, anti-oxidants make it possible for the skin to be healed on a very widespread but targeted basis. It can heal damaged cells throughout the body, but will only target those cells which are in need of repair.

Tips For Easy, Beautiful Natural Skincare

By

Author: Chris C Burrows
Source: ezinearticles.com

In an era where women are bombarded with revolutionary beauty products, many are going back to the basics and more natural skincare. Nature provided us with its own products to keep our skin supple, glowing and youthful. Great skincare doesn’t have to come out of a jar. It can happen by taking care of your body as a whole. Here some simple things you can do to take care of your body’s largest organ, starting today.

Stop eating sugar

Beautiful skin can start from the inside – by eliminating sugar, one of the main causes of premature aging. This happens when glucose attacks protein at the molecular level resulting in a loss of skin elasticity. Then, wrinkles begin to form and skin begins to sag. It may be difficult, but start decreasing the amount of sugar you consume today.

Add essential fats to your diet

There are good fats that your body absolutely needs to function well. These healthy fats are responsible for making cells membranes and creating hormones. If cells are healthy, skin is healthy. Those with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and acne, as well as those who suffer from dry skin should add flaxseed or walnut oil to their diet, cold water fish such as sardines and salmon or fish oil supplements.

Good digestion shows in healthy skin

Great skin is a reflection of how well you’re feeding your body, and how well you’re body is processing food. Two ways to boost your digestion is to drink plenty of water and plenty of fiber. Women require 21 to 25 grams of fiber a day. Men need as much as 38 grams of fiber. What is fiber? It’s roughage, which can be whole grains, veggies and legumes such as beans. In combination, water and fiber prevents constipation, which in turn can help those who suffer from psoriasis, rosacea and even acne.

Get moving for great skin

Sluggish circulation? Get up from your desk and move around! Skin cells need oxygen, which is supplied via the blood which is pumped through your body by the heart. Inactivity contributes to bloating and cellulite, so get plenty of exercise and watch your face glow.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

One of the best methods of sloughing off dead skin cells is to give yourself a dry brush exfoliation. Use a soft, dry skin brush with real bristles. Stand in the shower, and before you turn on the water, take the brush and start at your feet brushing in small circles. Work upwards towards your heart, and don’t brush too briskly over your thighs or your face where the skin is thin. This will improve the circulation of blood with a slight detoxification effect. The gentle pressure is very soothing and calming, helping ease stress.

Gentle, chemical free products

Your local organic food store will carry top quality products which contain no chemicals, preservatives or toxic ingredients. However, they do carry a steep price tag. There are ingredients right in your kitchen that will give you excellent results. They include facial scrubs made of regular oatmeal and honey. Egg whites, beaten and applied to the skin for ten minutes before cleansing, act as an astringent. Lemon juice makes a refreshing cleanser. And every day, ordinary olive oil, in small amounts so it doesn’t clog pores, is one of nature’s best moisturizers.

By

Author: Jane Simpson
Source: isnare.com

Imagine browsing through skin care aisles and finding that one, perfect product that boasts of all-natural ingredients. Serendipity, right? Then you go and read the label expecting to find a virtual salad but instead finding yourself reading benzoic acid, butyl stearate, and some totally unpronounceable names. You’re no botanist but you’re sure that those stuff don’t grow on trees. This is because most commercial items meant for skin care nowadays contain preservatives and other chemicals to maintain their consistency and shelf life. Problem is, most of these chemicals can actually irritate more sensitive skin.

What solution is there for this kind of crisis? Simple. Mix your own, homemade skin care line. There’s nothing to it as most ingredients are found in your fridge or fruit basket. All-natural skin recipes are easily found in the Internet or even in magazines. Usually, these skin care mixes are composed of a combination of one or two fruits. Combinations like these can include either the fruit pulp, fruit juice, or both. Milk, water or honey are usually added to smoothen the mixture. Natural Skin Tightening in Three Simple Steps

By

Author: Valerie Rosenbaum
Source: ezinearticles.com

Natural skin tightening can be accomplished with just a few simple steps. There is no need to subject your face or your checkbook to the needles and other treatments offered by cosmetic surgeons.

The right topically applied formula can improve the skin’s health and appearance. It might not happen overnight, but the sagging and wrinkles didn’t develop overnight, either. So, give yourself some time. Here’s how to start the healing process.

Unless you have recently lost a lot of weight, the causes of the sagging are the same as those that cause the other signs of aging. Decreased production of collagen and elastin fibers is one problem. A low level of hyaluronic acid is another.

Free radical damage plays a role in wrinkle and age spot formation. Just how much of a role it plays in lost firmness is difficult to estimate. But, free radicals probably play a role in damaging the elastic fibers.

Chronic inflammation can also damage the elastic fibers, as time goes by. Knowing the causes of lost firmness is important for understanding how best to treat it. It is possible to reduce chronic inflammation, prevent and reverse free radical damage, increase the production of elastic fibers and improve the skin’s hyaluronic acid content, naturally.

The first step for natural skin tightening might be to make some changes in your diet. Some foods and beverages contribute to chronic inflammation, while other foods have natural anti-inflammatory activity. Increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids while reducing your intake of other dietary fats is one suggestion.

Another suggestion is to add more naturally anti-inflammatory herbs and spices to your diet. For example, turmeric, ginger and pepper have anti-inflammatory activity.

The second step for natural skin tightening may be to choose a mild cleanser. If the cleanser you are currently using is too harsh, it can cause irritation, which leads to redness and inflammation, which as you already know is one of the causes of aging.

Look for soaps containing active manuka honey or gels containing tea tree oil. Try a sulfur-based cleanser, especially if you have frequent acne outbreaks. Use your cleanser only when necessary. Don’t over-clean your face.

After you clean your face, you should always use a good moisturizer. That is the third step to natural skin tightening. If it contains the right ingredients, it can provide a 40% improvement in the skin’s firmness after only 18 days of use.

You will need to be consistent with your skincare regimen, if you want to see results. Sometimes, we get lazy or we expect immediate results. When it comes to improving the skin’s health and appearance, it takes a little time. Give it a month and see what happens. Take a close-up picture without makeup before you begin and look at the difference you see in a month. If you see no effect, choose another product.

Look for moisturizing ingredients like grape seed oil and bioactive keratin. They should provide the natural skin tightening that you want, in a relatively short period of time.

Valerie Rosenbaum studies every skin firming cream released on the market in search of the best products. She recommends all natural products that include ingredients such as Cynergy TK, Phytessence Wakame and Functional Keratin.

She recommends a line of natural skin care products that reduce fine lines and wrinkles while nourishing the skin’s natural ability to heal. To learn more visit her website DefendYourSkin.com.

The Basics of Skin Care

By

Author: Robert W Mccormack
Source: ezinearticles.com

Everyone in the world has some issue or another with their skin…even if it doesn’t appear so. There are all kinds of skin issues from dry skin to oily skin, acne to psoriasis and rosacea, and even highly irritable skin. That being said, let’s start off with the skin care basics that everyone needs to follow.

First of all you will need to find a cleanser that matches your skin type and does well with your skin. You can pick up facial cleansers at pretty much any drug store, big box store, grocery store and even department stores. You can also get a prescription for special cleansers from your dermatologist. You should probably stay away from bar soaps as they have a tendency to dry the skin out and are not meant for use on your face. If you have dry skin then you should try a creamy consistency cleanser and for oily skin a clear cleanser will work best. Your dermatologist can recommend one for you or a make-up consultant at a department store can match one to your skin type. Always ensure that you do not cleanse too often though. You should use warm water to clear clogged pores and loosen dirt and then a small bit of facial cleanser as directed.

The second step in basic skin care is exfoliating. A lot of women tend to skip this step. Think about this though…most men have smooth facial skin. Why is that? Their faces are exfoliated daily when they shave. Do you see a correlation here? Exfoliation basically means removing the top layer of dead skin cells from your face thereby leaving your skin not only smoother but younger looking as well. There are many ways to exfoliate. You can buy a scrub with microdermabrasion beads and do it yourself or get a chemical peel or even use retinoid like Retina-A.

Step three in skin care is to moisturize. Every single person (except acne sufferers) should moisturize daily. Moisturizing is essential to sealing the moisture into your skin. If your skin is tight, it definitely needs a moisturizer. You can get moisturizers in many price ranges and just about anywhere just like you can with the facial cleansers. Your skin will let you know just how much moisturizer to use too. If it gets too oily, then you are moisturizing too much. If it gets too dry, then obviously you are not moisturizing enough. Listen to your skin and it will guide you.

Lastly in the basic skin care regimen is the sunscreen. Everyone knows that the sun has harmful rays and can cause skin cancer, wrinkles, and spots. We tend not to think about sunscreen unless we know we will be in the sun for long periods of time, but any exposure at all can be harmful to the delicate cells in your skin. You should even wear it on cloudy days. In all actuality, you should have two different sunscreens. One for the day that has UV protection and one for night.

If you follow these four basic skin care steps, you can rest assured that your skin will stay looking younger and feeling smoother for longer than if you do not follow a specific skin care regimen. Take very good care of your skin, it has to last you a lifetime.
