I firmly believe that the appearance of a persons skin reflects the overall health of the person. Everyone wants to have healthy, attractive looking skin and there are steps which can be taken to help achieve this aim. It should be remembered that the skin is the largest organ of the body and as such requires top class nutrition to maintain a top class appearance. It is only common sense really that poor nutrition is going to be reflected in the skin.

Eating large quantities of fresh vegetables and fruits is a great start to your better-skin regime. These foods are full of antioxidants which will fight the good fight on behalf of your skin against the ravages of time and poor nutrition. Eating them raw will provide more benefit than eating them cooked because the cooking process causes much of the nutritive value including antioxidants to be lost. Remember that the darker coloured vegetables and fruits contain the most antioxidants.

If you suffer from dehydration from lack of water intake, then your skin will become aged and discoloured. You should be aiming to drink up to eight glasses of water per day. The more water you drink, the more the harmful toxins in your body will be flushed out of your system, which will benefit your overall health which will be reflected in your skin. Remember that many caffeine drinks such as coffee actually promote dehydration by causing fluid to be eliminated from the body, so limit the quantity of these in your diet.

Another fundamental impediment to healthy looking skin is smoking. If you smoke you are dehydrating your skin and creating wrinkles, especially around your mouth. You will age prematurely, you will be harming your overall health, and your breath will stink!

Another wonderful source of fluid for your skin is vegetable and fruit juices. If you have a juicing machine you should indulge yourself every day in a glass or two of fresh juice. Carrot juice is particularly good for the skin, and you will notice a healthy glow after a few days. Carrot juice is a great blood cleanser and because it is alkaline it acts to reduce acidosis in the body. Cucumber juice is another juice which is effective in the maintenance of a healthy skin, and if you mix carrot and cucumber juice you have a potent mix acting for the benefit of your skin and for the benefit of your health overall. If you suffer from acne, this may be an effective approach to take.

Eating raw garlic is an approach that I have personally noticed seems to give my skin a healthy glow after a few days. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and is an effective blood cleanser, so I suppose it stands to reason that any infections or blood impurities that may be reflected in the skin will be at least partially treated by the consumption of raw garlic. Garlic breath may be the price you have to pay for this approach, but your skin will be grateful at least.

Regular exercise is something that you should consider if you wish to have healthy skin. Exercise will increase the circulation throughout the body which in turn carries nutrients to where they are required, including the skin. Medical specialists say that acne can benefit from exercise because exercise lowers stress levels which effect the adrenal glands. The reduction in hormonal output helps to control the outbreak of acne.

I believe that the maintenance of healthy skin runs parallel to the maintenance of good health overall. You are unlikely to have healthy looking skin if you are not healthy. The state of your internal organs such as the liver and heart and lungs can be revealed to a certain extent by x-ray procedures and they will show abnormalities which reflect your state of health. So too the skin, which is the largest body organ, but happens to be visible for all to see, will reflect the health of the individual. So the very best way and in fact the only reliable way to maintain healthy looking skin is to maintain your health. It is only commonsense, after all.
