The skin is quite an amazing organ. Weighing in at almost nine
pounds, on average, the skin is the first line of defense for
the body. The trouble is that we are not born with a user manual
for our skin. To compound the issue, the most education people
receive on the subject come from marketing messages produced by
the skin care industry. As you will discover, the skin, although
an amazing organ, is not that complicated to take care of. Below
are the 5 essential things you should know about taking care of
your skin.
1. The purpose of skin is to protect you and to excrete wastes.
It takes oxygen and nutrients from the blood (not the air or any
topical treatment) to help keep it healthy. It also expels oils,
toxins and sweat through its pores. All of this, plus heavy
moisturizers and creams and the pores can become clogged.
2. To keep your skin healthy, start on the inside first. Eat a
healthy diet complete with plenty of colorful fruits and
vegetables that a high in fiber, water and antioxidants. In
addition to eating properly, avoid excess alcohol and all
tobacco products.
3. Keep your skin by cleansing with warm or lukewarm water.
Splash the water on your skin gently and never expose your skin
to extreme temperatures. Very hot or cold water can damage the
tiny blood vessels in your skin, called capillaries. Also, while
bathing avoid getting shampoo or other hair products on your
skin because they can cause irritation. Remember to include your
neck as part of your facial skin care.
4. When trying out products on your skin, always test with a
small area. No matter what the claims on the product label
(allergy-free, hypoallergenic, etc) you can still have a
reaction to a new product.
5. Consistently follow a simple yet effective skin care regime.
Cleanse, tone and moisturize.
Cleansing is very important because clogged pores usually
precedes acne and blemishes. A cleanser should be slightly
acidic to avoid stripping oils from the skin. Work the cleanser
into your hands and then gently apply to your skin. Splash
plenty of lukewarm water on your skin to remove the cleanser. In
certain circumstances, you may need to cleanse twice. An example
would include if you were wearing heavy cosmetics and/or
cosmetics for a very long time.
Toning is the most important part of the skin care regimen.
Toners are composed of mostly water and a little alcohol. They
tighten the skin and help prepare it to receive the moisturizer.
Make sure to check the ingredients and get one that contains
cetyl alcohol. Any other kind of alcohol is too strong for the
skin. The best way to apply a toner is with a spray bottle. It
does not need to be wiped off either.
The last step is to moisturize. No matter if you have dry or
oily skin, you still should moisturize. Make sure the
moisturizer you choose is nonalkaline cream, lotion or gel. The
type you buy should be based on your skin type. If you have dry
skin, you can use a heavier product. If you have oily skin, go
with a lighter product such as a gel. It is also good to use one
that has UV protection (at least SPF 15). Depending on your
lifestyle, you can also you a day cream and a night cream
instead of a single product.
Proper skin care doesnt have to be complex, expensive or time
consuming. These 5 essential principals will go a long way
towards helping you keep your skin looking its best. Of course,
some people have more severe skin conditions and they should
always consult a dermatologist for professional advice.br

Simple Formula to Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads develop in almost all skin types but most commonly appear in those with oily skin types and normal to oily skin types. They usually appear in the T-zone of the face (forehead, nose and chin). A blackhead is a combination of dirt, debris, dead skin cells, and oil which embeds in the pore. The first inclination is to pinch it out; however doing so only bruises the surrounding area, especially if the blackhead is well embedded into the skin. Most the time blackheads are the result of improper skin care. Too often people overuse skin care products, first drying out their skin with the wrong cleanser for their skin type, not using a toner to close the pores before applying a moisturizer, and using the wrong moisturizer for their skin type. For instance those with exceptional oily skin will use harsh and drying skin care products to dry up the excess oil. However doing so only cause the oil glands to react and produce more oil. Selecting the right skin care product for your skin type is imperative in order to achieve a healthy, blemish free complexion. There are many skin care products that contain harsh chemicals that are detrimental to the environment and may cause harm to your health and skin over time. Below is a simple recipe to make your own blackhead remover strip(s). Ingredients:1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin1 1/2 tablespoons milk Instructions:Mix both ingredients and microwave for 10 seconds till it is warm to the touch. Note: this does not smell the best when taking it out of the microwave, but this recipe actually removes blackheads! Warm nose and/or chin with warm cloth to open pores, apply mixtures to nose and chin area. Do not use around eyes or other delicate areas. Allow mixture to dry on nose and chin for 15-20 minutes, or until a stiff film appears. Peel off the film and there you go, all the debris in your pores has surfaced to the top. Rinse face with warm water and then follow with a cool toner to close pores and restore pH balance and follow with a moisturizer. As with any new skin care recipe or product, always do a patch test first. For more skin care recipes, how to videos, and great articles visit Complete Skin Care TherapyÂÂÂÂbr

Living With Oily Acne-Prone Skin
Author: Theodore Michaels
Source: ezinearticles.com
People who have oily skin tend to find the skin type intrusive in their daily lives. After all, it can be embarrassing having to attend social functions with everyone staring at your oily face. Although there is no actual cure for oily skin, there are some steps you can take to minimize it's impact in your day to day activities. Much of the information found online and elsewhere dealing with this topic is largely inaccurate. For instance, some sites recommend washing your face multiple times a day to get rid of the oil slick. This only worsens the problem as your skin is encouraged to overproduce sebum. Below you will find some inexpensive solutions to this pesky problem.
Oil blotting sheets can be a godsend for those with an oily complexion. These are thin wafers of tissue that can be carried around with you. When you find the need to dry out your skin, take a sheet out and press it against the problem areas, giving it ample time to absorb the oil. You can repeat this as many times as needed per day, as blotting does not really irritate your skin. Some important rules are to use clean hands and to dab the skin dry as opposed to rubbing it.
An oily complexion is sometimes caused by a severe lack of skin moisture. The skin uses sebum to preserve moisture levels, and when it goes on an oil over-production spree, that is a good indication that it is lacking moisturizer. An oil-free moisturizer is in order for this situation. Apply the moisturizer at night time and during the day. With regular use, you should see your skin producing smaller amounts of sebum until oily skin is no longer a problem.
If you suffer from acne and have this skin type, you should double check your acne medications to ensure they aren't too harsh. Your acne cleanser may be stripping oils off your skin causing oil overproduction. If you are on prescription medications, consult your dermatologist about the issue. After all, too much oil can increase the prevalence of acne breakouts.

Do you have an excessively oily skin which causes breakouts frequently? This could be one of the causes of acne.
